FDA Menu Labeling Draft Guidance Issued

Today the Food and Drug Administration released a second draft guidance for FDA menu labeling. The FDA menu labeling guide helps restaurants and other retail food establishments with 20 locations or more comply with legislation going into effect December 1, 2016. The new rule requires calories be posted on menus and menu boards and other nutrient information available upon request. Calories On The Menu Law

FDA implemented a calories on the menu law as part of the FDA menu labeling regulations that go into effect on December 1, 2016. We'll explain which foods and beverages must follow the calories on the menu law, which foods and beverages are exempt, and how to display the caloric values. FDA menu labeling beverages is part of the legislation the FDA requires of restaurants and similar retail food establishments. The menu labeling law goes into effect on December 1, 2016. Required Statements for FDA Menu Labeling

There are two required statements for FDA menu labeling whose purpose is to help consumers.  The first statement, known as the succinct statement, is intended to provide context to calorie listings by stating a general amount of total daily calories (2,000) that are used for nutrition advice.
