Today the Food and Drug Administration released a second draft guidance for FDA menu labeling. The FDA menu labeling guide helps restaurants and other retail food establishments with 20 locations or more comply with legislation going into effect December 1, 2016. The new rule requires calories be posted on menus and menu boards and other nutrient information available upon request. There are two required statements for FDA menu labeling whose purpose is to help consumers. The first statement, known as the succinct statement, is intended to provide context to calorie listings by stating a general amount of total daily calories (2,000) that are used for nutrition advice.
